FAQs about Planning a Thailand and Cambodia Tour

TBangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are must-visit destinations in Thailand. Bangkok is a vibrant metropolis with a mix of modernity and Thai tradition. Chiang Mai displays the rich culture and natural beauty of northern Thailand. Renowned for its stunning beaches, Phuket is a paradise for beach lovers.
Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are two must-visit destinations in Cambodia. Siem Reap is famous for the ancient masterpiece Angkor Wat. Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, offers a blend of Khmer history and urban charm.

The climate of Thailand and Cambodia has three seasons: dry season, hot season, and rainy season. The dry season (November to February) is the best time to visit both countries. This period offers pleasant weather and mild temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
March to May is the hot season. The temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F), but this period offers cost-effective tours for travelers. The rainy season occurs from June to October, bringing lush green landscapes but also occasional downpours. It’s not suggested to visit the mountains during the rainy season.

It’s recommended to travel to Thailand and Cambodia together for 10-14 days. It gives you enough time to explore the must-see tourist attractions in Thailand and Cambodia. In Thailand, you can visit local markets and temples in Bangkok, explore cultural heritages in Chiang Mai, and relax on the stunning beaches in Phuket. While in Cambodia, you can admire the ancient Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap and discover the Khmer history of Phnom Penh.
If you want to see more, a 2-week Thailand and Cambodia tour itinerary is the best. It allows you to have more cultural experiences, such as joining a Thai cooking class or visiting Cambodia’s floating villages. Besides, you can add some hidden travel destinations into your itineraries like Ayutthaya or Battambang.

First, check your passport’s expiry date – it should be valid for at least 6 months. Most travelers need visas for Cambodia. It’s recommended to get a Cambodia e-visa before departure. Many countries get Thailand visa-free entry for short trips. You can get a visa on arrival at airports or border checkpoints. Remember to prepare:
- Return flight tickets
- Hotel bookings
- Proof of enough money (about $30/day)
Check if you need vaccines (like Yellow Fever) before flying. Always buy travel insurance – it covers lost bags or sudden sickness. Rules change often, so check government websites 2 weeks before your trip.

The main transportation choices are airlines, buses, and cars between Thailand and Cambodia. You can choose based on your budget and time:
Fastest option: Several airlines operate daily flights between Thailand and Cambodia, like Bangkok to Siem Reap (1.5 hrs).
Cheaper choice: Take buses from Bangkok to Siem Reap ($25, 8 hrs).
Flexible one: Hire a private car with driver, which is great for families. You can stop at cool places along the way.
Need to mention that you’d better avoid the rainy season (July-Oct) if taking road trips – some roads flood.

The Thai Baht(THB) is Thailand's official currency. You could use credit cards directly, which are widely accepted in urban areas and large establishments. But if you go to visit local markets or remote areas, you need to carry enough cash for shopping. You can find ATMs everywhere, but they charge around $6 commission fee per withdrawal.
Cambodian Reil and US Dollars are widely accepted in Cambodia. In urban areas and tourist-centric locations, credit cards are also accepted. However, for smaller businesses or in more rural areas, you need to carry some Cambodia Riel or US Dollars.

Don’t worry about language barriers. In Thailand’s tourist spots like Bangkok and Phuket, hotel staff and tour guides speak decent English. Learn basic phrases like "Sawasdee" (hello) and "Nee tao-rai?" (how much?) for markets.
Cambodia’s Siem Reap surprises visitors – even tuk-tuk drivers know "airport" and "Angkor Wat". English may be limited in rural and less touristy areas, but translation apps work well. Fun fact: Cambodians use unique finger gestures for numbers – hold up three fingers sideways to say "two"! Smile often – it’s the universal language here.

In Thailand, you can greet locals with a slight bow and pressed palms (called "wai") – the higher your hands, the more respect you show. Never touch someone’s head or point your feet at Buddha statues. Cambodia’s "sampeah" greeting uses similar hand positions – use both hands when giving/receiving items. Both countries require modest clothing at temples – carry a light scarf to cover shoulders.
Thais deeply respect their King, so avoid talking about royal family photos. Cambodians appreciate polite speech, and you need to lower your voice during disagreements. If you are not sure to do, just observe and follow what locals do.

We had such a truly amazing time in Cambodia and Thailand with the private tour Indochina Tours planned for us..we decided we needed to go to Vietnam next year with the help of Indochina tours.
Ivy Wu who worked with me endlessly to plan the itinerary and especially Helen Chhour, the in-country contact in Cambodia, were simply stellar in their customer service and knowledge of the country and so willing to make changes due to some last minute health issues of my husband, changing our tours to private when needed to accomodate his problems walking and securing better seating and kid glove service on our flights. Simply superb.
We loved the tour guides and drivers in Cambodia and Thailand (especially Chen Suon in Cambodia...he was wonderful and kind in dealing with Eric's issues, but also warm and friendly and knowledgable in so many ways).
Just stellar all round.

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Indochina were excellent from start to finish. Sreypov was able to put together the perfect itinerary for us - responding and adapting very quickly during the planning stages.
Kea gave us great support in organising everything during the lead up to the trip. Our guides and drivers in Ho Chi Minh, the Mekong, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap were all excellent. We had the perfect balance of culture, history, beach time and great food.

My granddaughter and I traveled to Siem Reep, Cambodia for 3 nights on a private tour. My agents were Ms. Maiky and Ms. Kea. Ms. Maiky recommended some great options and listened to what I wanted. Our hotel was wonderful, the Koulen Central Hotel and we had wonderful breakfasts there included. We witnessed the grandeur of sunrise at Angkor Wat, multiple temples there, a countryside jeep tour, traveled to Tonle Sap Lake and visited a floating village. We inadvertently witnessed a local funeral and two weddings. We received an amazing massage after a full tour day in the nicest spa I have ever been to. Incredibly tranquil and soothing. Our guide, Mr. Socheat, knew everything about the places we visited and answered all our questions. It was a very full itinerary and that is what I asked for.
We then traveled to Thailand for 7 nights. The first 3 nights were in Bangkok at the Amara Bangkok Hotel, very modern and efficient property, also with a full buffet breakfast included. Our guide there was Ms. Ketsara and she was wonderful; very down to earth, lighthearted, and flexible with our itinerary. She came up with things to do that weren't on the original itinerary that we really enjoyed. We took a private motorboat tour on the Chao Praya River and passed temples along the way. Our favorite visit was to the Grand Palace and riding by tuk-tuk to the famous Reclining Buddha. One morning we drove to the train market and the floating market, both highly recommended.
We then flew to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand which had a completely different vibe and some intense spiritual energy. Our hotel there was the Boddhi Serene Boutique Hotel, which, after Bangkok felt like it could use a fresh coat of paint and deep clean, but it was a beautiful, peaceful property. We were there when the 7.7 earthquake hit nearby in Myanmar. The hotel staff was calm and efficient. It was an intense experience and we're grateful we were there at the time instead of almost anywhere else. We spent our days walking into town and checking out the sites.
We then flew to Phuket and stayed at the Burasari Phuket Resort. I didn't schedule full days in either Chiang Mai or Phuket as we were eager for some down time. We did do a full day tour by speedboat to Phi Phi Island and other smaller islands in the area. We snorkeled and swam and it was pleasant but a little too touristy for me. My 20-year-old granddaughter would have loved another day in Phuket and Bangkok.
All our hotels were good and our guides were good. The agents I booked with responded efficiently to any questions I had. I recommend travel with Indo-China Tours. They know the area and respond well to all requests.

I worked with Ivy at Indochina Tour to create a custom itinerary. I sent her the specific sights that I was particularly interested in and ones that I wanted to leave out and she curated that to a trip that we loved.
The guides and hotels were great. The one criticism I had with Indochina Tour is that after we booked the trip, the operations person that was responsible for the tour logistics would not respond to my emails and texts for a long time. This deficiency in communication was frustrating.

Our recent 17-day private tour of Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia with Indochina Tours (February 16th - March 4th, 2025) exceeded all expectations! The planning process, starting in September 2024, was smooth and efficient thanks to our dedicated travel consultants, Amara and Kea. They were knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and always quick to respond.
We were consistently impressed by the high caliber of the local guides throughout our journey. Ket (Bangkok), Mia (Chiang Rai/Mai), Nemo (Hanoi/Halong Bay), Vu (Ho Chi Minh City), Paska (Siem Reap/Krati), and Reya (Phnom Penh) were all fantastic. A special mention goes to Paska in Siem Reap and Krati, whose deep knowledge and passion for Cambodian history and culture truly enhanced our experience. We wholeheartedly recommend Indochina Tours for anyone looking for a personalized and unforgettable trip through Southeast Asia.

I booked with this company based on the reviews. Elena planned an excellent itinerary for our family, grandparents with two ten year olds. Her suggestions included activities that would be interesting for them as well as us. Communication was prompt and I appreciated that. Hotel choices were excellent although I did change one in Luang Prabang to Villa Maly and was very happy with my choice. One was not great but maybe was the best the area had to offer.
The drivers were all good and vans were clean and modern. One driver in Siem reap, Mr Tan, was especially outstanding. The guides were good , with two, our guides in Pakse and SiemReap being especially excellent.
In addition to the wonderful temples and other activities popular in Siem Reap, I suggest that you try lunch with a local. This experience with Dany in her home, gathering produce and herbs from the garden, preparing the food, cooking it and best of all eating it was a highlight of the day!
There were a few issues. Communication with the tour operation could have been better. I did not get final information until the day before I left. There was no guide booked for our last day in Phonom Penh and one was hastily booked.
The bigger issue was that I had asked specifically for a particular company for one event on many occasions but my request was not fulfilled. I would suggest that if there is something that you particularly want, you should book it yourself and inform the company to add it to your itinerary. That way you won’t be disappointed.
Overall, I think the trip was fantastic, great value and well thought out. I think we couldn’t have had a more varied three week tour of Laos and Cambodia.

Hello Sreypov and Kea,
We want to thank you very much for organizing a beautiful vacation in Cambodia for our group in March 2025.
Your attention to details made the difference, and we were able to discover and embrace the people, food, and culture of Cambodia. The itinerary was very well designed, the accommodations excellent and so were the chosen restaurants.
As per our guides and drivers, we were extremely impressed by the professionalism of Chan and Tan in Siem Reap. They made our days memorable. They worked excellent together. Tan is a very good driver and pays attention to all details. Chan’s professionalism, knowledge, control of the English language and attitude made the whole trip memorable.
Thank you very much for choosing them to show us the beauty and history of your country.
Sreypov and Kea, the 2 of you have organized an amazing trip for us, and we will suggest your services to any of our friends if they visit Cambodia.
Personally, we will probably schedule a Vietnam and Thailand trip in the next few years, and will reach out to you when we decide.

Our Cambodian trip was absolutely amazing. Our day at Angkor Wat started at 5am to make the sunrise at 6.30am. Our guide arranged for us to get a packed breakfast from the hotel so that we could quickly move from the sunrise to exploring the temple complex before the crowds. This was an advantage of booking a personal tour rather than a group tour( who would need to return to their hotels after sunrise for their breakfast before starting to explore the complex). Mr Nob Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and guided us through all the highlights efficiently and almost always seemed to find us quiet moments to explore each of the important areas. This obviously got more tricky as the day got busier. The Angkor Wat trip was followed by a relaxing massage back in Siem Reap (Mudita Spa).
Tours by Jeeps provided us with an excellent exploration of the countryside around Siem Reap the following morning. It was very exciting to be touring around in a vintage ex military american Jeep. The afternoon was back with Mr Nob to explore the floating village.
Siem Reap is a beautiful city and it would have been nice to have an extra day to explore some more.
Next day was a drive to Phnom Penh. Quite a long drive broken by exploring some of the country's older temples.
Phnom Penh is an impressive city and provides the base for exploring the killing fields and the even more harrowing S21 torture centre. Fortunately Phnom Penh offers a much lighter side with tours of the temples and royal palace.
Our final trip from Phnom Penh was the fast boat down the Mekong to Can Tho.
Thanks to Ivy and Kea at IndoChina Tours for organising our fabulous trip.

Our trip was amazing!! Everything including hotels, food, guides, and transportation were as described on the website. Bliss did a great job a customizing one of their standard tours to meet our exact needs. We could not have asked for anything more. Give them a try - you won't regret it.

Great trip! Guides and drivers were fantastic. Because it was a private tour, we set the time and agenda. No waiting for people from the tour. No getting up to be on the bus at 8am. We combined this trip with a 7 day trip to Laos, then customized it to what we wanted to see and do.
My friend and I are older, so neither of us wanted anything too difficult or rushed. The only hiccup that occurred was when we got to one hotel in Laos, and they didn't have our reservation. We called our contact in Cambodia after hours, who stopped what she was doing and took care of the situation. She was fantastic.
Indochina Tours did send the booking to this hotel per the itinerary, but the hotel never confirmed the booking, then had no vacancies when we arrived. She had to book us at a different hotel. Then had a car come get us and we were at the new hotel within the hour. Amazing trip, and i would use this tour company again for future travels to S.E. Asia.

Having never been to this part of the world, I found Indochina Tours online. The trip planning was easy and seamless with the help of Bliss and Kea as tour planners. They customized this trip for our family of 3 adults and included everything we asked for and more.
Bliss and Kea kept us updated as to travel documents, itinerary and payments. The pay system was secure. We were met at each airport with highly identifiable signs. Local tour guides were fluent in English, friendly and accomodating.
Tour vehicles were clean, comfortable with excellent, safe drivers. Local guides adjusted daily to meet our needs resulting in a wonderful travel experience. We selected 4 star hotels and those provided were above our expectations. Hotel staffs were friendly, met all our expectations and assisted with local transportation and suggestions on our time off of the tour schedule. The food provided by out tour plan was exceptional.
Our highlights of the tour included Siem Reap, The Train Street of Hanoi, Hanoi Bay cruise and local markets and beautiful temples. Be sure your visas have the exact names as they are listed on your passport, birthdays listed with Day, Month, Year, and travel dates covering your time in the countries. If not, you will not be allowed to enter the airport and you are on your own. We would highly recommend Indochina Tour for an unforgetable travel experience.

Indochina Tour customized a 19 day tour for us for Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and it was simply amazing. They arranged every step of the way (accommodation, tour guides and drivers, flights) for each city visited and all was excellent. In the tour office, Helen was so helpful and connected with us before the trip to confirm all details, and checked in during the trip to see how we were doing. Highly recommend!

Indochina Tour was a great experience. Each and every tour guide we had were exceptional on their tour. Accommodations were great. You gave us an upgrade for the cruise in Ha long bay because the hotel room in Hanoi didn’t have a window. Let’s just say that upgrade was amazing! I would not stay on Patong beach in Phuket next time, but rather a quieter, less crowded beach.

Bliss and Helen put together and managed a great tour for us. We wanted to do some biking, so we had 5 days with some biking in our trip. We had consistently great scheduling and results for pick up and drop off whether it was for day tours or at airports.
All of our guides were very good to outstanding. Bliss did a great job of planning an itinerary that was interesting and fully met our needs. Helen was outstanding at responding to the few questions we had along the way. Her responses were always timely and thorough. We spent 13 days in Vietnam, 4 in Cambodia, 4 in Loos, and 8 in Thailand. We wouldn't change anything about how the trip unfolded.
The costs were very reasonable, especially given that many of the tours and all of the airport transfers were just the two of us. Our accommodations were consistently very good and always included great breakfasts with local and international cuisine options. I can happily highly recommend this great tour company.

Indochina tours were excellent, my wife and I started in Bangkok, visited Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, returning to Bangkok, 17 days in all.
There were 9 flights, a train trip, 7 sets of guides and drivers, 8 pick ups from airports or train stations, 4 countries, 3 visas and not a single delay or hitch.
All the guides English was excellent, and the local knowledge fantastic , all this was underpinned by Indochina head office with Sreypov and Kea masterminding the whole trip.
I am an experienced traveller (I have visited 126 countries) and the organisation of this trip is the best that I have ever experienced. Derek & Clare Chapman UK

From the first communication with Sreypov and Kea we had excellent help and advice in planning our trip. They were able to answer our questions quickly and efficiently and were very flexible in arranging the itinerary. The hotels were perfect in location and facilities. The guides and drivers without exception were excellent and were very thoughtful and considerate. We saw everything we wanted to see and more. We cannot recommend Sreypov and Kea enough - what a fantastic experience.

I cannot praise Indochina Tour Company highly enough. Elena and Helen put together a 12-night tour for me at the very last minute. I spent 8 nights in Vietnam which included a stay in Hanoi and Hoi An and a 2-night cruise on Ha Long Bay. The May de Ville hotel in Hanoi and the Victoria Beach Resort & Spa in Hoi An were excellent 4 star accommodation. The Regina Cruise was just perfect and I would recommend.
The 4 nights in Siem Reap were all at Koulen Central Hotel. which again was excellent 4 star accommodation The itinerary was designed to my request so I didn't do all the tours included in the usual 12-night tour. Whilst I enjoyed the whole tour the highlights for me were in Hanoi at night from the rooftop bar at May de Ville Hotel, the views are spectacular and it's fascinating to sit and watch Hanoi at night, the 2-night Ha Long Bay cruise, sunrise at Angkor Wat on my birthday is something I will always remembers and this was immediately followed by a full tour of the temple.
Visits to other temples in the Siem Reap area and Tonle Sap Lake, the Cambodian Phare Circus, which I found very entertaining and the Khmer Countryside Cooking class. The last two I wasn't sure I would enjoy but I really did and have already made my own gluten free spring rolls as per Ben's recipes. For many of the tours I was the only person, so I could ask all the questions I wanted which was great.
All the tour guides were very informative, without me feeling that they were just giving me guide book speak. The limousine minibus transport was excellent. All the tour guides and drivers were very professional and helpful. I never felt awkward being a solo traveller but I also was able to interact with other like-minded travellers. I would strongly recommend Indochina Tour Company if you are thinking of travelling in South East Asia.

Our tour was extremely well arranged. We only had about six days, and visited Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Angkor Wat. All the guides were very good, although their English varied a bit. Indochina Tour arranged our internal flights and train, plus our return to Hong Kong. Overall, we thought it was extremely good value for money, especially considering the included hotels, transportation and guides. I would enthusiastically recommend Indochina tours, especially Ivy who helped us develop our itinerary.

Kimheang arranged the itinerary for our 4 country 3.5 week S E Asia adventure. From the point of first contact she was sup[erbly professional in handling every single detail.
From flight arrangements to hotel selection and on to the programme for each day and the excellent guides they provided, everything was perfect. We were not looking for any faults which was just as well as there were none.
After arranging the delivery was handled by Kea. We did not have a single problem in the whole trip. Flights, hotels, guides - the complete programme over 3.5 weeks was delivered. Every single item.
Congratulations to Kimheang and Kea and your colleagues for sorting this trip out for us, you packed so much in that we had to take a 4 day R&R break in Phuket before we flew hope yesterday.
It is so nice to see the pride you all take in your work providing an excellent product and then delivering it superbly.
We hope to be able to work with you again to put together another holiday discovering even more things you recommend.
